Putin: “All European Leaders Interfered in the U.S. Elections”

Russian media are quoting a new statement by President Vladimir Putin, in which he claims that “all European leaders, without exception, interfered in the elections in the United States, including insulting one of the candidates. Russia never interfered in the elections in the United States, and all attempts to find traces of Russians in the 2016 elections failed.”

Putin’s Provocative Remarks

In an apparent effort to stir controversy, Putin further commented: “I am surprised by the restraint shown by President Trump towards his allies after they behaved in a beastly manner. He certainly conducts himself intelligently in relation to them.”

Putin also expressed his willingness to meet with Trump but emphasized that meticulous preparations would be required before such a meeting could take place.

A Strategic Disinformation Move

Putin is once again demonstrating his intelligence background by flattering Trump while attempting to drive another wedge between the United States and Europe. His claims seek to deny Russia’s well-documented interference in the 2016 U.S. elections—interference that has been thoroughly investigated and proven. Similar Russian meddling has been reported in European elections and questionable political influence in Africa as well.

The Bigger Question

The real concern now is how much longer these Russian narratives will find a receptive audience in the White House. Will this strategy continue to deepen divisions within the free world, which has so far maintained unity against Putin’s aggressive imperialist ambitions?
